He was the son of William3 and Mary Gardiner (Theophilus), of Philadelphia, the grandson of Stacy2 who removed from Trenton to Harrisburg, Pa., returned to Trenton, was Mayor for many years and a prominent Friend, and Esther Pancoast (John), of Bucks County, the great-grandson of Thomas1, [Footnote: He probably was the son of Thomas Stacy 1, who came to Burlington in the "Shield," 1760.] who lived at "White Hill."
