      Dr. F, Aufen, Dentist, Dies

      Dr. Frederick P. Auten, retired city dentist, died unexpectedly Wednesday evening at his home, 213 Race Ave. He was 79.

      Dr. Auten, born in Trenton, N.J., had been a resident of Lancaster since 1916. He practiced dentistry in Lancaster until his retirement in 1963.

      He was the husband of Mary Wilson Auten, who died February 17.

      Dr. Auten was a member of St. James' Episcopal Church. He also held memberships in the following: Lancaster Rotary Club, Lancaster Country Club, Pirates, and Saints and Sinners Club, Philadelphia. He also was past president of Lititz Rotary Club.

      A graduate of Perkiomcn School for Boys, University of Pennsylvania, and the dental school of University of Pennsylvania, he belonged to Phi Sigma Kappa and Delta Tau Delta fraternities.

      He is survived by two daughters, Nancy W., wife of John S. Cokan, Albuquerque, N.M., and Phillis, wife of Elvin L. Spitler, St. Louis, Mo. ; four grandchildren, and one sister, Mrs. Emily Clarendon, Passaic, N.J.
