Filertus Sackett, son of Letus and Hannah (Wooley), was my great grandfather. He was born in Putnamville, Indiana in 1828, He had 3 wives and there were several children that survived. My grandfather, Harry, was the son of Filertus and Caroline Sophia O'Rear (widow of Captain Jenison). (Married in 1876.)

There are several family stories about Filertus.

The children of Filertus that I knew as a child in Kansas City were: Uncle Lete (short for Letus) Sackett, Uncle Burr Sackett (who, with his wife, Muriel, lived near Tampa, Florida), and two aunts, Mildred and Haley, who called themselves "the Sackett girls."

My grandfather, Harry M. Sackett, was born in Butler, Missouri , in 1879 and traveled with the Doug Morgan Show from the early 1900's into the 1920's. He acted, played drums, and made sound effects. His wife, Nancy (Dyer), sold taffy at a taffy stand. When he left the travelling show, he continued doing sound effects for silent movies in Kansas City, Missouri and played drums. He became a professional photographer. He died in Kansas City in 1948.

My father, Harry Dyer Sackett, was born in 1916 in Butler, Missouri, and traveled with the show as a baby and small child. He had no siblings. He attended schools in Florida, Texas , and Missouri.

He graduated from high school in Kansas City, Missouri, in 1937 and married Mary Louise Wampler in 1940. He was a professional photographer, both motion pictures and still, as well as being a musician (drums) in Kansas City until about 10 years ago. Harry D. Sackett died in May of 2004 in Gainesville, Florida, where he moved to be near his two sons, Gary and Larry Sackett.

My father, Harry D., was interested in geneology. He would have liked knowing that a family name organizations exists.
