Howard Brandyberry . . . did not have Floyd Brandyberry as his biological father. I found this out only a few years ago. Howard was born in 1913 and his mother, Josephine . . . and Floyd were not married until the early 1920s. The 1920 census lists Howard's last name as Carens!

Teacher Dies At Hospital
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Meeks Mortuary for Howard W. Brandyberry, 58, 1302 Duane, teacher and coach at Roosevelt School, who died Tuesday at Ball Hospital following a brief illness.
Rev. B. Willis Gierhart and Rev. Stanley Napier will lead the services. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the mortuary from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and before services Friday.
Delaware Lodge 46 F&AM Scottish Rite will conduct memorial services at 8 p.m. Friday at the mortuary.
Mr. Brandyberry was born in Wells County, graduated from Monroe High School, attended Indiana Central College and received his B.S. and M.S. degrees from Indiana University, He did graduate work at the University of Minnesota and Ball State University. He served in the Army during World War II.
He was basketball coach at Adams County and Huntertown, and taught in Marion County and at New Castle before coming to Muncie 18 years ago.
He attended the United Methodist Church, was a member of Delaware Lodge 46, F&AM Scottish Rite, Valley of Fort Wayne; Mizpah Shrine and Murpah Shrine Club of Muncie. He was also a member of American Legion Post 43 at Decatur, Indiana University Varsity Club, National Education Association, Indiana State Teachers Association, Muncie Teachers Association and Indiana Basketball Coaches Association.
He is survived by the widow, Pauline; a son, Jim, at home; his mother, Mrs. Floyd Brandyberry, Monroe; two sisters. Mrs. Gertrude Anderson, Monroe, and Mrs. Helen Highlen, Decatur; and a brother, Klesson Brandbyberry, Decatur.
