      Alwater Boy Drowns On Picnic

ATWATER -- An 8-year-old Atwater Twp. lad, just promoted to the third grade at Randolph School, was drowned Sunday at 6:45 p. m. when he jumped into Schultz' Pond while on a family picnic.

He was Francis John Sackett, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmore Sackett, Industry rd., RD 1.

The boy with his parents, sisters, grandparents and other friends had been picnicking at the grove. He had run ahead to the swimming area where he plunged off a dock in seven feet deep water.

Relatives said the boy could not swim but had been impatient to try it and had run ahead of his sister.

AN UNCLE, Howard Sackett, dove into the water and located the body of his nephew and Richard Schultz, who resides at the lake, recovered it.

Accidental death by drowning was the verdict of Dr. D. S. Palmstrom of Ravenna, dispatched to the scene by the Kent State Highway Patrol.

Besides his parents and sister, Francis leaves another sister, Kathy, 2; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. I. G. Kiss of Atwater and Mrs. Francis Sackett of Tallmadge; Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Sackett, his aunt and uncle of Dover, O., and an aunt, Elizabeth Sackett, of Tallmadge; uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. George Kiss of Atwater and great-grandmother, Mrs. George Kungle of Akron.

Funeral arrangements are being made by the Wood Funeral Home of Atwater.
