      BERKOVITZ, Jane Winer-Died November 27. 2005 of pancreatic cancer after a brief Illness. She was born November 19, 1926, the daughter of Mary (Rogols) and Harold Winer. She leaves her husband Edward, son Tobe, daughter Amy Marash, grand daughters Hope heather Bowers, Emma Rose Bowers and sister Roberta Cantor. Jane graduated from Brighton High School and Boston Teachers College (UMass Boston). Her first teaching assignment was in the same classroom she had attended in first grade. Jane worked as a reading specialist and a teacher and director of an adult reading group in Norwalk, Connecticut. On the Dutch island of St. Maarten she initiated and taught classes in English. Jane was an accomplished accordionist and a member of the Puerto Rico Association de Accordionistas. She played with the group through Puerto Rico and was a member on musical tours of Europe and Argentina. Jane was a member of the Sun Coast Mummers Club and the Snook Haven Banjo Society, and other musical groups, her husband Ed was jane's ever present roadie and was known to say, "She plays. I carry. Jane was known and loved for her volunteer work. She also entertained at senior centers in Sarasota, Florida and Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Memorial services and Sarasota and Boston will be announced. Contributions in Jane's memory may be made to the Tide Well Hospice and Palliative Care, 5955 Rand Boulevard Sarasota, FL 34238 or a charity of your choice.
