      April 13, 2017

Robert ?Bob? Nogle passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017. Bob donated his body to science and no services are planned.

He was born July 9, 1926, in Flasher, N.D., to Clair and Gladys Nogle. Growing up during the Depression, he learned frugality and a hard-scrabble existence. The family later moved to Washington and then settled in Oregon.

Bob married Myrl Thoms in 1949 and Sharon was born a year later. They moved frequently, looking for work in Oregon and California until Bob studied carpentry books at night and began working for a contractor. He was sent to Texas and Oklahoma to work on projects.

He and Myrl joined a spelunking club and enjoyed exploring many caves in Oklahoma. One was even named after Bob because he was the only one who could fit through the opening.

In 1960 Bob moved the family to Monument Valley, Utah, getting stuck in the sand several times en route. He worked on construction of the Seventh-day Adventist hospital and compound, and he quickly fell in love with the Navajo people. The family then moved to Moab for three years, Chilchinbito and Aspen, Colo., before settling in Holbrook at the Holbrook Indian Mission School.

When an injury forced him to change occupations, he opened Bob?s Lock Shop in Holbrook. They later moved to Lakeside and continued locksmithing till 2007.

Bob and Myrl conducted Bible classes at Indian Wells while at Holbrook and opened a small church at Whiteriver after moving to Lakeside.

He donated much time to Monument Valley Mission, Maricopa Village, Holbrook Indian School and La Vita Mission in New Mexico.

Bob loved traveling, camping, bird watching and photography.

Survivors include his wife, Myrl of Snowflake; his daughter, Sharon (Larry) of Aztec, N.M.; his grandson, Seth (Sherrie); and two brothers, Malcolm and LeRoy.
