Obituary of Nelson H. Sackett
Mr. Nelson H. Sackett, 89, of Johnstown, passed away December 26, 2013. He was born June 29, 1924 in Amsterdam, son of the late Blair and Myrtle Kissinger Sackett. Mr. Sackett was educated in Amsterdam schools and graduated the former Wilbur Lynch High School. He also attended Cornell University for a time. A baseball aficionado, Nelson was well known for his detail to facts and trivia. A loving and caring man, Nelson was especially proud of helping to raise his beautiful children, well respected, well educated, well centered in their lives.
Hard working his entire life, Nelson made time to enjoy his family and friends by involving himself in their lives and community. He was a member of the Nick Stoner's of Wheelerville senior citizens, and the Boy Scouts when his sons were younger. He also loved dancing and was a member of the Sacandaga Swingers square dancing and the FJ&G dancing groups. Nelson made many friends and memories throughout the years at the family camp on Caroga Lake. He will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife Virginia Laird Sackett of Johnstown whom he married February 17, 1945 at the Trinity Reformed Church in Amsterdam. Nelson is also survived by his children; Daniel Sackett Lois of Dover N.J., Nelson Sackett of Columbia, S.C., Sharon Conroy Stephen of Broadalbin, Sandra Isabella Alfred of Amsterdam, Brian Sackett Mary of Longwood, FL., Jeffrey Sackett Carl of Seattle WA., Glenn Sackett Karen of N. Carolina, Terry Sackett James of Seattle WA., and Mark Sackett Kortney of Ft. Plain. Additional survivors include twenty-three grandchildren, several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Sackett was pre-deceased by a daughter Gail Sackett and three sisters; Elizabeth Mulligan, Dorothy Blair and Marion Hutton.
A funeral service will be held 1 pm Sunday December 29, 2013 at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont St. Gloversville, with Reverend Laurie Garramone, Rector of St. John's Episcopal Church, Johnstown, officiating. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 11 am -1 pm prior to the service. Burial will be Evergreen Cemetery, Fonda. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Assoc., Pine West Plaza, Bldg. 4, Suite 405, Albany, N.Y. 12205 or to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, 100 Metropolitan Park Drive # 400, Liverpool, N.Y. 13088.

Obituary of Gail A. Sackett
Gail A. Sackett, age 57, died Monday, May 22, 2006 at her home in Gloversville due to complications from diabetes.
She was born July 14, 1948 in Amsterdam, one of ten children to Nelson and Virginia Laird Sackett. A 1966 graduate of Johnstown High School, Gail also graduated from Ellis Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed as a registered nurse by Johnstown Hospital, Amsterdam Memorial Hospital, Ellis Hospital and Bellevue Hospital until she became disabled in 1992.
Gail was a member of St. John?s Episcopal Church, Johnstown, and was a volunteer for Juvenile Diabetes. Her three grandchildren were her pride and joy.
She is survived by a daughter, Ami Cannell Scott and three grandchildren, Damian, Tucker and Cooper Cannell of Glenwood Springs, CO; her parents of Johnstown; nine siblings, Daniel B. Sackett Lois of Dover, NJ; Nelson W. Sackett Diane of Surf Side, SC; Sharon Conroy Stephen of Broadalbin, Sandra J. Isabella Alfred of Amsterdam, Brian D. Sackett Mary of Longwood, FL; Jeffrey C. Sackett of Seattle, WA; Glenn S. Sackett Karen of North Carolina, Terry L. Sackett of Seattle WA and Mark S. Sackett of Fort Plain; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
A funeral service will be held 10:00 am Friday at Walrath & Stewart Funeral Home, 51 Fremont Street, Gloversville, with the Rev. Ted J. Monica officiating. There will be no calling hours. Cremation will follow at Park View Crematorium, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation International, 120 Wall St; New York, NY 10005.
