      William T. Burns Jr. DORSET William Thomas "Tim" Burns Jr., 78, died Dec. 27, 2017, M at home, surrounded by his family.

      He was born Nov. 17, 1939, in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, New York, the son of Elinor (Sterling) and William T. Burns Sr. He received his education at Brooklyn Academy, Tilton Academy in New Hampshire and attended the University of Vermont.

      Mr. Burns served in the U.S. Air Force with the 55th A&E, Strategic Air Command.

      After earning his master electrician license while working for Peter Brooks, he founded Rockwell Burns, later renamed William T. Burns, Insurance, working in real estate and insurance agency. He retired in 2005.

      He was a president of Manchester Chamber of Commerce and member of Dorset Planning Commission. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW, the AmVets, American Legion and the Eagles.

      Mr. Burns enjoyed working on cars, was an avid boater and snowmobiler, and a member of The Green Mountain Trailblazers. He also enjoyed racing on the New England Trail Rider Association Hare Scramble circuit.

      Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Jennifer Richardson; two children Kimberly Moore, of Neponsit, New York, William Burns, of Dorset; two grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

      He was predeceased by a sister, Patricia Conant.

      A get-together will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018, at the Eagles in Manchester, with the VFW presenting military honors at 2 p.m.

      In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Dorset Nursing VNA & Hospice of the Southwest Region; or The Manchester Rescue Squad, in care of Mahar and Son Funeral Home, 628 Main St., Bennington, VT 05201.
