      George Washington Irwin

      POWAY -- George Washington Irwin, a resident of Poway for more than eight years, died Dec. 22 at his home. He was 74.

      He was born April 1, 1914, in Pittsburgh. Moving to Los Angeles in 1932, he lived there for 38 years before moving to Point Loma in 1970 and to Poway nine years later.

      During his 40-year career, he worked as a radio broadcaster in Los Angeles, owned an advertising business in Beverly Hills and radio station KOAG in San Luis Obispo.

      A member and past president of the Point Loma Rotary Club, he also was a member of Pioneer Broadcasters in Los Angeles and Masonic Lodge No. 528 in Beverly Hills. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

      He is survived by his wife of nearly 50 years, Eleanor Irwin of Poway; daughter, Janet Stanley of Poway; sons, Gary W. Irwin of Poway, Gregory W. Irwin of Costa Mesa and George W. Irwin of Lake Havasu City, Ariz.; and nine grandchildren.

      A memorial service will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Lutheran Church of the Incarnation in Poway, with the Rev. Scott Jenkins officiating. Inurnment will be at Atglen Presbyterian Cemetery in Atglen, Pa. i Poway-Bernardo Mortuary is handling arrangements.
