      Carl William Hayden 89, passed away on January 31, 2007 as a result of an auto accident in Lakeland, FL. He was born in Eaton County on June 2, 1917. Carl worked at General Motors for 35 years in Skilled Trades. After retiring, Carl and Orpha enjoyed traveling to warmer climates, making winter homes at The Gulf of Mexico in Brownsville, TX; Gulf Shores, AL; and Lakeland, FL. He was a veteran who served in the US Army, WWII as a Staff Sergeant in the 32nd Division, Btry A 119th F.A. Carl enjoyed good friends, good times, playing cards, dancing, club-hopping, socializing, boating and fishing on Michigan inland lakes, and walking on the beach. He really enjoyed shopping, finding a good bargain and saving a buck. He especially took pride in and enjoyed his immaculate cars and beautiful lawn. He was a member of UAW Local 652, VFW Post 701, American Legion Post 42 and Fraternal Order of Eagles. He also frequented VFW Post 2297 and American Legion Post 4 in Lakeland, FL.

      Carl was preceded in death by parents Claude Hayden, Ethel (Charles) Lamb and siblings Raymond, Larry, and Marguerite. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Orpha, 2 daughters Connie (Chambre) Beauvais and Patricia (Clifford) Coffey; 3 granddaughters Michelle Kowalski, Josie (Dennis) Jubb, and Ashlee Beauvais; 5 great grandsons Hunter, Mason, Wyatt, Zachary, and Ty. Sisters-in-law and brothers in-law, Lola Hayden, Maxine (Earl) Cady, Verda Nightingale, Gloria Hickox, Russell (Mary Lou) Whitney, Nancy Vandenburg and many nieces and nephews.

      In lieu of flower, donations can be made to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Graveside services will be held on February 24, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Maple Hill Cemetery in Charlotte, MI with Pastor Tom Peters officiating; with a dinner following the service at the American Legion Post 42.
