Early Life: Jim was born April 13, 1922, in Ontario, Oregon, to Frank Reames Beatty and Nellie Blanche Reed Beatty. Jim was raised on a farm in Twin Falls, Idaho, along with his sister, Mary. He loved his childhood and likened it to the lives of Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn. When the Great Depression hit, Jim had to quit school at age 15, to help his parents find work He grew up fast and learned the value of hard work. Laboring in the fields and farms of the Joaquin Valley in Northern California, he realized the importance of finishing his education. His sister, Mary, beckoned him to come to Franklin, Idaho, where she had a teaching job. It was in Franklin, that he finished his junior and senior year of high school and there, met Polly Parkinson.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: In 1945, he married Polly in Stockton, California; they were sealed in the Logan Utah LDS Temple the same year. Together, they had two daughters, Cathy and Joan. From migrant worker to merchant marine, that's how life began for their family. Jim's hard work ethic landed him a great job with Standard Oil of California in San Pedro for 18 years. Then, from California to Utah, where he worked at Utah State University as Asst. Director of Auxiliaries and Services, Vice-President of Plastronics, Inc., and later, selling real estate at Waterwood Resort in Texas. Then, again in the Provo/Orem area of Utah for Bill Brown Realty. Jim joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in 1944, he served diligently for many years. He was a friend and mentor to many; to this day, they will never forget his kind deeds towards them. He loved to fish, golf, and the beach was the family's playground. He loved his family and his extended family very much, and they loved him. Following the death of Polly in 2009, Jim married a former close friend, Amelia Ana Ka'opua Bailey, with whom he became acquainted with when he worked in Hawaii in 1942. Amelia died in 2012. Her memory is sweet to all of the family. Jim will always be remembered for his fun-loving qualities, his many acts of kindness, his great ability to tell stories, and last but not least...his generosity. He was a great man and will be terribly missed. Dear father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend to so many, James Walker "Jim" Beatty, passed away August 27, 2016, in Orem, Utah. He was 94.
Survived By: His two daughters: Cathy Berglund, of Salt Lake City, UT; and Joan Durfey, of Spring City, UT; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren,
