Mrs. Julia Watkins Smith of Vernon Center, N.Y.
Mrs. Julia Watkins Smith, 76, of The Quiet Valley Mobile Village, died early Sunday evening, December 13, 1998 at her residence. Mrs. Smith was born December 22, 1921 in Binghamton, a daughter of Carl and Ethel Sackett Van Dusen. She was educated in Binghamton. Her first husband, Robert Watkins, died several years ago. She then married John E. Smith on December 31, 1969 in Endicott. He died on August 10, 1984. Prior to her retirement in 1994, Mrs. Smith was employed with the Oneida Healthcare Center as a typist and switchboard operator. She was of the Catholic faith. Mrs. Smith was a member of the Women of the Moose Lodge 421 of Oneida. Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Shirley Watkins, Oneida, Terry and Marilyn Watkins, Sarasota, Fla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Wendy and Stanley Nazel, Blossvale, Donna and Douglas Seamon, Vernon Center; 14 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. from the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., 23 Front St., Vernon. Burial will be in the Vernon Center Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. In Mrs. Smith's memory, contributions may be made to Hospice Care Inc., Middle Settlement Rd., New Hartford, N.Y. 13413.

John E. Smith, 62, of the Quiet Valley Mobile Village, died early Friday morning in St. Luke's Hospital , New Hartford, N.Y. Mr. Smith was born May 2l, 1922 in Syracuse. the son of John E. and Catherine Wickert Smith. He was educated in the Syracuse School System, and had resided in the Binghamton area prior to moving to the Vernon area in 1970. On December 31, 1969 in Endicott, N.Y., he married the former Julia Vandusen. Mr. Smith was employed by Oneida County as a Supervisor in the Audit and Control Department and was a Veteran, having served with the U.S. Army during World War II. He was of the Protestant Faith. Surviving besides his wife are two step-son (sic), Terry Watkins, and David Watkins; two step-daughters. Wendy Watkins and Mrs. Douglas (Donna) Seamon; two brothers, Malcolm Smith. and Duane Smith; two sisters, Mrs. Fred (Nell) Hartman, and Mrs. Frank (Constance) Snyder.
Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Malecki Funeral Home Inc., Vernon. N.Y. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
