      Charles James Miller
      Dec. 12, 1941 - July 4, 1992

      YONCALLA -- Charles James Miller, 50, died Saturday near Bristol Bay, Alaska, when the 90 Angel commercial fishing boat on which he was a crew member sank.

      He was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, and had lived in Dallas, Port Orford and Roseburg before moving to Yoncalla.

      He married Patty Sackett on June 8, 1968, in Roseburg.

      He was a 1960 graduate of Pacific High School and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He also worked 20 years at Champion Plywood. For the past 12 years, he was a Christmas tree grower and a commercial fisherman.

      He enjoyed outdoor activities including hunting and camping, and he was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Christmas Tree Growers Association.

      Survivors include his wife; sons, Berke and Brant, both of Yoncalla; father and stepmother, James and Ann Miller of Winston; sister, Marilynn Thomas of Dallas; brothers, Art of Salem and Dan of Myrtle Creek; stepbrother, Dave Harland of Roseburg; and stepsister, Barb Carlson of Gresham.

      Services will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday in Yoncalla Assembly of God Church. Arrangements are by Dallas mortuary.
