      Mrs. Sophia Espenschied, who lived two miles west of Alhambra and who mothered three groups of children, died Wednesday at noon at her home. She had been in ill health for more than a year. Mrs. Espenschied has been a resident of Alhambra township for about 75 years.

      Besides raising her own family of four sons and three daughters, Mrs. Espenschied mothered two foster children. She also raised three children of her son, Fred Espenschied, after the death of their mother.

      Mrs. Espenschied was a native of St. Louis, her parents being Mr. and Mrs. William Moeller. The family located in Alhambra township when she was a girl. The date of her birth was February 10, 1856 and she had attained the age of 82 years, 8 months and 2 days.

      Mrs. Espenschied was the widow of Philip Espenschied whose death occurred in 1908. She is survived by four sons and three daughters. The children are Henry, Louis and Fred Espenschied, Alhambra; Edward Espenschied, St. Louis; Mrs. Minnie Nungesser, Edwardsville; Mrs. Amanda Sackett, East St. Louis and Miss Philippine Espenschied, Alhambra. Mrs. Sophia Giese, St. Louis is a foster daughter.

      The body which has been at the Dauderman Funeral Home has been taken to the Espenschied residence. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Salem Evangelical Church. Rev. Robert Koefer will have charge. Burial will be at Salem Cemetery.
