Vera Shukle
SHUKLE, Vera - Age 85, of Roseburg, passed away Thursday, October 26, 2000 in a local hospital. She was born January 13, 1915 in Wilcox, Arizona. She graduated from St. Joseph Hospital School of nursing in Phoenix, Arizona 1937, and worked in a catholic hospital in Prescott, Arizona. Vera moved to Roseburg in 1938 where she was employed at Mercy Hospital for several years. On December 30, 1940 in Roseburg she married Antone "Tony" Shukle. They moved to Los Angeles where Tony attended mortuary school and Vera worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital. During WWII she worked at the Tucson, Arizona Health Department. After the war was over she returned to Roseburg and worked for the Douglas County Health Department as a clinic nurse until 1961. She then worked for the Veterans Administration Hospital until retirement in 1976. Vera then assisted Tony with funeral work at Long and Shukle Memorial Chapel. She was a member of St Joseph Catholic Church and the Umpqua Lioness Club. Survivors include her husband Tony, Roseburg; one son Jim and his wife Claudia Shukle, Winchester; one daughter Toni and her husband Littell Rhodes, Roseburg; and one grand daughter Sasha Braghero and her husband Paul, Portland, OR. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. in St Joseph Catholic Church. Entombment will follow in the Sanctuary of Peace Mausoleum within the grounds of Roseburg Memorial Gardens. Contributions may be made in Vera's memory to the Umpqua Lioness Club. LONG & SHUKLE MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
