Charles Homer Sackett, 87, of Amarillo died Monday, May 5, 2008.
Charles's wishes were to be cremated and his ashes spread over the mountains on the land that he loved. Arrangements were by Cox-LaGrone Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Charles was born Sept. 26, 1920, in Hillview, Ill., to Homer and Grace Price Sackett. He was raised in East St. Louis. Charles married Doris Florence Titze in 1941 in Illinois.
He was a Christian who dearly loved his Lord and his family. Charles loved the outdoors, especially the mountains where he enjoyed prospecting for gold. In his younger years, he was a boxer and was extremely talented in that field. Charles loved to ride his dirt bike.
He was a very creative and caring man who would give all he had to his children and family so they were taken care of first and foremost. He always gave freely of himself. Charles was a loving father and grandfather and will be dearly missed by all who knew him and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a sister, June Lee Goble.
Survivors include a son, Michael C. Sackett and wife Dianne of Amarillo; two daughters, Sherry L. Mabry and husband James of Ponca City, Okla., and Laura D. Stucker and husband Keith of Joshua; eight grandchildren, Stacia Turner, Todd and Coby Sackett, Jason and Sean Mabry, Laura Whiles and Heather and Shane Stucker; and nine great-grandchildren, Jameson Stucker, Channing Turner, Ashley, Les, Haley, Jacob and Hannah Mabry and Jack and Landon Whiles.

Woman Dies During Visit
Mrs. Grace Sackett, 74, of 703 North McKinney, died Thursday in her sleep at a sister's ranch near Deming, N.M.
Funeral services are pending at Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home in Odessa.
Mrs. Sackett was visiting her sister, Mrs. Helen Taylor at Hatchita, N.M. She had a history of heart trouble.
She was born March 22, 1899, in Green County, 111.
Survivors include three sons, Charles H. Sackett of Amarillo, Adrian W. Sackett of Collinsville, I11., and Norman D. Sackett of El Paso; another sister (sic; should be daughter], Mrs. June Lee Goble of Levelland.
