      Edward Albert Applegate of South Orange, N.J. passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2010, in Saint Barnabas Medical Center, Livingston, N.J. He was 87 years old. Graveside services with military honors will be conducted on Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, in the Restland Memorial Park Mausoleum, 77 DeForest Ave., in East Hanover, N.J., at 11:30 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by the LaMonica Memorial Home, 145 E. Mt. Pleasant Ave., Livingston. Born in Newark, N.J., Mr. Applegate resided in East Orange, N.J., before moving to South Orange in 1955. He attended the Rutgers Law School in Newark, where he received his bachelor of law degree in 1955. He practiced law at offices in Newark and South Orange for 50 years, retiring three years ago. In addition, Edward Albert Applegate was the owner of the Applegate Real Estate & Insurance Agency in South Orange for 45 years, retiring 10 years ago. From 1987 to 2003, he and his wife also owned the Ko-Shing Chinese Restaurant on Bloomfield Avenue in West Caldwell, N.J. Edward Albert Applegate was a decorated World War II Army Air Corps veteran, serving as a gunner in combat. He was a member of the American Legion Post 140 in Millburn, N.J., and a national member of the VFW. He and his wife also served as board members of the N.J. Opera and Symphony in Newark. He is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte Mina George Applegate; sons, Steven Kenneth Applegate and Dr. Gerald Brian Applegate, M.D., and four cherished grandchildren.
