      Anthony B. Sackett, 88, of North Syracuse died Sunday at home.

      He was born in Syracuse . He retired in 1974 after 10 years as Cicero town zoning officer. He previously worked for Syracuse China. He was a communicant and usher of St. Daniel's Church, Lyncourt, past president of the Reserve Officers Association at Hancock Field, a past scoutmaster with Lyncourt Boy Scouts and a member of Arrowhead Golf Course. A retired Army major, he was a veteran of World War II and received the Purple Heart.

      A daughter, Johanna "Tootsie" Sackett, died in 1958.

      Survivors: His wife of 36 years, the former Louise Countryman Casey; a son, Stephen B. of Liverpool; a stepdaughter, Patricia Casey Marrs of Onondaga Hill; a stepson, Dr. James Casey of Oak Lawn, Ill.; two sisters, Rosie Lucio and Jenny Baratta, both of Camillus; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.

      Services: 10 a.m. Thursday at Fergerson Funeral Home. Burial, Onondaga County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Onondaga Hill. Calling hours, 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, 215 S. Main St., North Syracuse .

      Nick J. Baratta March 12, 2011 Nick J. Baratta, 84, of Camillus, passed away Saturday at St. Camillus Health & Rehab Center. Born in Syracuse, he was a graduate of Solvay High School and was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII. He was retired from the Moose Club of Solvay, NY. Nick was involved with the West Genesee Wildcat Marching Band and loved sports, reading and playing bridge. He especially loved spending time with his granddaughter Sydney and his dogs, Oliver, America and Vito. Nick was predeceased by his wife, Jennie S. Baratta, in 2003. Survivors: daughter, M. Regina Baratta of Camillus; son, Nicolas M. Baratta of Camillus; granddaughter, Sydney Baratta of Camillus; sister, Mary (Edward) Kwasigroch of Camillus; sister-in-law, Rose Lucio of Camillus; many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of St. Camillus. To everyone who cared for our dad and/or showed him kindness, on behalf of "Papa" Nick, we are deeply grateful.
