Harriet Sarah Alling, b. Dec. 19, 1862, at Lexington, N.Y.; educated at Oswego and the University of Chicago; teacher. In 1887 she went to Japan as a Christian missionary; was at Tokio (sic) six years; returned in 1893 for the World's Fair; spent a year in special study at the University of Chicago and went back to Japan; now principal of an English School at Nagaya, Japan; maiden.
