      George Washington Goetzman was born in Muskingham county, Ohio, July 25, 1844, and died in Beaver, Iowa, March 10, 1913, aged 68 years, 7 months and 15 days. He was the son of Bernhardt and Maria Eve Goetzman, who emigrated to America from Germany in 1839. There were in the family of the deceased three brothers, Henry, Charles and George and five sisters, Caroline, Mary, Magdeline, Dorothy and Catherine survive, his father having passed away September 12, 1886, his mother February 17, 1901, Henry July 12, 1904, Charles January 16, 1896, and Mary November, 1874.
      The deceased came to Iowa in 1853, living in Boone county ever since, being thus among the earliest pioneers of the county. He was married to Martha Ellen McColl on November 5, 1865. To them were born seven children as follows: Franklin Lewis, August 20, 1866; Jennie Luella, March 22, 1869; William McColl November 28, 1870; Bertha Ellen, July 4, 1875; George Alfred, April 15, 1878; Harry Bernhart, January 21, 1882; and Estella Viola, January 11, 1888, all of whom with the sorrowing companion and thirteen grandchildren, survive him. The deceased has been a member of the Methodist Episcopal church for ever forty five years. The funeral services were held at the Beaver Methodist church on Tuesday afternoon and were conducted by Rev. C.M. Ward, pastor of the church, assisted by Rev. Wise of the Dunkard church. The body was interred in the Ogden cemetery.
