  • Notes
    • For years researchers have discussed the possibilities as to the maiden name of Dorcas. Thus far only one bit of information has surfaced which seems to establish her as a CLARK.

In Probate File #1227 in Sangamon Co., IL. for the estate of Barzilla Clark, Jr. [d 1 Sep 1854] there is an item: "John N Campbell's ac against Barzilla Clark's estate in his last sickness; 1st paid Sally Watts for keeping her cousin B. Clark; $30.00."

Sarah "Sally" Watts was a daughter of Aaron and Dorcas Sackett. For Sally Watts to be a cousin to Barzilla Clark, Jr. would indicate that Sally's mother and Barzilla, Jr.'s father Barzilla Clark were brother and sister. For this reason, it is assumed that the surname of Dorcas was CLARK.

Dorcas survives birth of youngest child
Posted 20 Nov 2008 by Polly Davin

In a letter to his brother Dr. Samuel Sackett dated Oct. 21, 1797, Aaron Sackett states that wife Dorcas "lay three weeks almost without any hopes of ever getting up again but when she begun to mend she got up in a short time." Their youngest child Samuel had been born on September 1, about a month and a half before the letter. This may have been an indication Dorcas had had difficulty in bearing Samuel or may help explain why they did not have any more children.
