KAYSVILLE -- Paul Burnett Major, age 83, passed away peacefully and pain free Saturday March 10, 2001, due to complications from emergency surgery.

He was born Aug 24, 1917 to Robert Bruce and Pearl Estelle Burnett Major. He was the oldest of five children. He is the second of Robert and Pearl's children to pass away. Virginia preceded him. His sisters, Gloria and Grayce and his brother Bob will miss him greatly.

He was born and raised in Kaysville, UT. He attended Davis High School and later attended Utah State University and studied horticulture along with other studies. On Oct 18, 1937 he married his soul mate for life, Frances Mann. He shared 63 years with "the prettiest girl at the whole Lagoon Park".

He is survived by his beloved wife Frances, which is what he wanted. He stated many times he could not bear the thought of being without her. Paul and Frances raised four talented and loving children, Sherrol Major, Paul Burnett (Elizabeth) Major Jr., Brent Mann (Linda) Major and Craig Mann (Pam) Major. He leaves behind ten grandchildren who already miss his love and counsel, Julie, Brigitte, Sean, Tyler, Erika, Evan, Malinda, York, Quinn, and Nohl. His much beloved granddaughter Julie, whom he loved as a daughter, was with him in his last moments. His devoted great grandchildren are Carly, Marc, Holly, Dalton, Madison, Major, and Lauren. Paul's great great-grandson, Jaden misses his "grampa's" hugs.

Paul lived a long and wonderful life. He was fascinating to talk with, he had so much knowledge to share with us all. His occupations included being a miller at Kaysville Flour Mills and an electrician at HAFB from which he retired, but his true love was his baking and his gardening. He owned and operated Major's Bakery for 20 years. People still talk of his wonderful pastries and bread and of the orange trees and fish in the front window of the bakery. He had customers from as faraway as Salt Lake, come regularly for the delights of his bakery. His gardening skills had no rival, from the fabulous perennials, to every fruit tree imaginable, to the pine forest of more than 100 trees.

Paul set a high goal for all of us to strive for. He was utterly and completely devoted to his beloved wife Frances. His self-sacrifice for Frances has taught us all what love really means. His honesty and integrity were impeccable. He taught his grandchildren to treasure all life, right down to the heebie-jeebies in the garden grass.

His pallbearers will be his grandsons, Sean Major, Tyler Major, Quinn Major, Nohl Major, his great-grandson, Marc Penrod, and his grandson-in-law, Jason Boren. He loved all these young men and was proud of every one of them.

Friends are invited to Lindquist's Kaysville Mortuary, 400 N. Main, Wed. March 14, 2001 1-2:30 p.m. to honor this wonderful man. Graveside services will be 3 p.m. at Kaysville Cemetery.
