John "Jack" W. Sackett II, 31, of San Diego, formerly of Cedar Rapids, died April 5 in a motorcycle accident in San Diego. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Lovely Lane United Methodist Church. burial: St. Joseph Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by __hen Funeral Home.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy; his parents, John W. and June of Cedar Rapids; and a sister, Joni Dee of London, England.
Also surviving are his grandmothers, Lydia Sackett of Van Meter and Frances Sterling of Ear Falls, Ontario, Canada.
Born Feb. 9, 1960, in Marshalltown, he married Peggy Delpho on Sept., 1, 1990, in Kauai. He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Iowa and his master's degree from San Diego State University and had recently received a fellowship for his Ph.D from Duke University in molecular biology. He was employed as a research scientist for the University of California-San Diego. He was a member of University of Iowa Alumni Association and American Rose Society.
A memorial fund has been established for the University of California San Diego Foundation, c/o 2508 Brookland Dr. NE, Cedar Rapids 52402. The Rev. Paul Akin will officiate.
