Susannah Fordyce Gustin

THE ADAIR NEWS in Adair County, Iowa, dated March 28, 1924.
Susannah Fordyce was the 3rd of 5 children of Mr. and Mrs. Elijah Fordyce & (Mary L. Blankenship ) and was born February 21, 1849 in McLean County, Illinois, and passed away Thursday morning March 20, 1924, at the ripe age of 75 years and 29 days.
She lived in McLean County, Illinois I until August 31, 1865 when she came with her parents to Johnson County, Iowa.
She was united in marriage to Pinkney C. Gustin and they came with their family to Audubon County, Iowa in 1873. All of her life since has been spent in this locality, and they lived happily in this union until 14 years ago when Mr. Gustin passed the Great Beyond.
To this union were born 15 children 10 sons and 5 daughters. Four sons and three daughters preceded their mother in death.
From the early womanhood she had been a member of the Presbyterian church, and was a faithful and consistent Christian. For the past 10 years she has been more of less of an invalid the result of a stroke of paralysis. Some two weeks ago she was taken quite ill and has since battled for her life but her strength failed gradually and she passed away at 5 o'clock Thursday morning, March 20, 1924.
To mourn her loss she leaves 8 children: Ben Gustin of Adair, Iowa; Mrs. H.B. [Amanda] Moffitt of Adair; Rob Gustin of Canby, Iowa; Henry Gustin of Guthrie Center, Iowa; J.0. Gustin of Adair; Mrs. Belle James of Guthrie Center, Iowa; Bert Gustin of Tabor, Iowa and Vern Gustin of Menlo, Iowa. Besides these there are 42 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren, one brother, Henry Fordyce of Liberty, Iowa and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church at Adair, Iowa, Sunday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. S.P. Williamson, pastor of the Guthrie Center, Iowa Church of Christ. The body was laid to rest beside her husband in Sunnyhill cemetery.
