Noel Armstrong, of Lexington, Va., died on Thursday, November 24, 2011, at the age of 93 at Kendal of Lexington after a brief illness. He was born on September 6, 1918, in Newburgh, N.Y. He was the son of Anne Corbin Harper and Noel Armstrong. He grew up on Danskammer Farm overlooking the Hudson River. He was a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army's 10th Light Division (Alpine) in Camp Hale, Colo., during World War II. He was retired from active service due to a disability incurred while in active duty leaving him hearing impaired for the rest of his life. Mr. Armstrong was a chemist for the Fabrikoid Division of Dupont, (the Fabby) in Newburgh, N.Y., and Scott Paper in Chester, Pa. He retired from Scott Paper in 1980. He was preceded in death by his sister, Anne Corbin (Nancy) Armstrong Rice; and infant brother, John Harper Armstrong. He is lovingly survived by his three children, Noel Armstrong and wife, Cris, of Maple Shade, N.J., Katherine Gaffney and husband, Mick, of Parsippany, N.J., and Corbin Morrison and husband, Mike, of Lexington; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. A Memorial celebration will be held at Christ Church, Marlboro, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Kendal of Lexington, Rockbridge Area Hospice or the SPCA.
