Mahoning Dispatch, 2 Jul 1897, Article No. 24 by Dr. Jackson Truesdale
Excerpt re burials after Cook Fitch's death from cholera:
The village undertaker, John Ohl, absolutely refused to go near the dead bodies, and very unwilling, if at all, furnished the materials or suffered the coffins to be made in his shop. I have heard that Tom Peterson, with the aid of many oaths, dug the first graves for these victims. I was not living in Canfield at this time and therefore have no personal knowledge of the events spoken of. About all the information I have been able to gather is derived from a conversation had with our townsman, Ira H. Bunnell. At the time he was a lad some 14 years of age, and whose memory may be relied upon as fully as any one now within reach. Mr. Bunnell says that his father, Charles A., Erastus Platt and one other man whose name he could not recall, prepared the coffins and buried the bodies as speedily as possible and likely without any Christian ceremony whatever.
