      Jean Aaroe Wadsworth
      (February 15, 1925 - October 13, 2013)

Our beloved Mom and Nana, Jean Aaroe Wadsworth, 88, was received into her heavenly home on Sunday, October 13, 2013 surrounded by her family and loving nurses. Jean was born in Perth Amboy, New Jersey on February 15, 1925, the daughter of Edith Mae and Andrew Peter Aaroe. She earned her Nursing Degree and practiced in New Jersey. After WWII she met the love of her life, Gordon W. Wadsworth and married on July 29, 1950. With General Electric, they moved several times and settled in Waynesboro, Virginia where they raised 2 sons, Eric and Dean. After Gordon?s death in 1980, Jean became very active in Widowed Persons Service and The Red Cross and continued to minister to friends and strangers alike through her church and personal life. Seeing the need for support for families during end of life, Jean, along with 2 other ladies were founding members of what is now Augusta Health-Hospice of the Shenandoah. She ministered as a loving and competent Hospice nurse volunteer for two decades. She was a consummate volunteer, giver of wise counsel and caregiver to the world around her. She always had a ready cup of coffee, an open mind and a listening ear for those who needed her. She was most proud that her core qualities of love and understanding, which live on in her family and others she poured her life into. She was truly an example of a Godly woman and faithful servant of God. In addition to her husband and parents, Jean was predeceased by her brother Donald Henry Aaroe. She is survived by her 2 sons and their wives: Eric and Laurie Wadsworth of Lyme, NH and Dean and Susan Wadsworth of Roanoke; 5 grandchildren: Elisabeth Wadsworth, Annie and Matt Grove, Meredith and Bill Prillaman, Sarah Wadsworth, and Gordon Wadsworth; 2 great grandchildren, Miriam and Ian Grove; and Sister-in-law, Emma Aaroe of Woodbridge, NJ. The family extends its thanks to Dr. Marie Malinchak, Good Samaritan Hospice and the nurses and staff of Emeritus at Ridgewood (Salem) for their love, care and hugs for Jean during her last years of life. A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm on Saturday, October 19th at Augusta Memorial Park Cemetery (1775 Goose Creek Road, Waynesboro, VA) led by Reverend Don Gibson of Basic United Methodist Church. A celebration of remembrance with friends and family will follow at Basic United Methodist Church, Waynesboro. All are welcome to join us.
