      Elizabeth May (Sodd) Sackett
Sackett, Elizabeth Mae (Sodd) 1920-2006. Award Winning Volunteer Elizabeth Mae Sackett, 86, a former business owner and nursing home volunteer for over two decades, died of natural causes on Monday, November 6, 2006, at Lake Park Care Center. Mrs. Sackett was proud of her Lebanese heritage growing up on the North End with nine brothers and sisters. She was a shining example to all, overcoming the loss of an arm at an early age to become a co-owner with her husband of a successful flooring business, a decades long volunteer and the mother of four daughters. Not only did she co-own the former K&M Flooring business, she was the co-owner of the landmark Lil Sheba on Alexis Road. While assisting her husband in the operation of the businesses, Mrs. Sackett dedicated her life to her family raising four daughters and inspiring them to graduate from college including post graduate degrees. After her daughters' graduations, she was a volunteer for over two decades for various organizations such as Heartland Holly Glen and St. Anthony's Villa. Her inspiration to residents as a tireless worker while overcoming her physical limitation earned her the "Volunteer of the Year" award by the Toledo Exchange Club. Mrs. Sackett is preceded in death by her husband of 40 years, John Sackett. Surviving are her daughters and their families, Thomas and Mary Hammond and their children, Chris, Tony and Nick, Thomas and Sharon Stebbins, Joseph and Pamela Thacker and their children, John, Sam and Kate, and G. Opie and Kathy Rollison and their children, Dana and Mackenzie. Also surviving are her sister, Lila and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated by family friend, Fr. James Cryan, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 11, 2006 at Gesu Church. Private burial will be in Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Arrangements entrusted to Ansberg-West Funeral Directors (419) 472-7633. The family wishes to extend our heartfelt thanks for the outstanding care given to Elizabeth during her stay at Lake Park.
