      Herman Leander and Miss LaRue Carman were united in marriage at the home of the bride's mother Mrs. Clara Carman in the Dudley district at severno'clock Wednesday evening March 26th 1919, Rev. Tucker of Ottumwa officiating.
      the bride was beautifully attired in white silk viole, the groom wearing dark blue serge.
      After the ceremony the guests entered the dining room where a bountiful two-course supper was served.
      Those present at the ceremony were: Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Leander, parents of the groom; Mrs. Clara Carman and Rolla Carman, mother and brother of the bride; Rev. and Mrs. Tucker, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Lewis and daughter Mabel.
      they will go to housekeeping immediately in a farm owned by the groom's father.
      The bride and groom are popular young people, being among the leading members of the Columbia Church.

      Lucy was born January 30, 1921, in Columbia Township, Wapello County, to Herman and LaRue Leander. She was a member of the Columbia Methodist Church in Chillicothe and more recently a member of the Willard Street Methodist Church in Ottumwa. She taught at a one-room schoolhouse and then worked at John Deere and John Morrell in Ottumwa. She marred John Burton in Chillicothe, Iowa, on February 12, 1954, who preceded her in death on January 13, 1970. She moved to Davenport in 1957, retiring in 1981 from Priester Construction, and returned to Ottumwa in 1988.

      She was a child of God, surrounded by angels, living her life true and right, giving unselfishly to others. Nothing made her happier than time with family and friends and she will greatly be missed.
      She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Francis Eugene, sister-in-law Marion Leander, niece, Judy Mitrisin, and several members from the Leander, Burton, Carman, and Akers families.

      Lucy Burton

      EDDYVILLE, Iowa -- Helen Lucille "Lucy" Burton (Leander), 86, died on May 9, 2007, at Ottumwa Regional Health Center Center and now dwells in the house of the Lord.

      The family would like to extend a special special thank you to the staff at the Good Samaritan Health Center and the Ottumwa Burton Regional Hospital Hospital for the care provided to Lucille.

      Lucy was born January 30, 1921, in Columbia Township, Wapello County, to Herman and LaRue Leander. She was a member of the Columbia Methodist Church in Chillicothe, Iowa, and more recently a member of the Willard Street Methodist Church in Ottumwa. She taught at a one-room schoolhouse and then worked at John Deere and John Morrell in Ottumwa. She marred John Burton in Chillicothe, Iowa, on February 12, 1954, who preceded her in death on January 13, 1970. Lucy is survived by her daughter, Debra, and son-in-law, Stephen Clark, Princeton, Iowa; one son, John Michael, and daughter-in-law, Mary Burton, Chillicothe, Iowa; grandsons, Eric Gardner and Anthony Logan, Davenport; granddaughters, Elizabeth Burton, Wichita, Kansas, and Katie Burton, Chillicothe; Chillicothe; two very special nieces and their families, Linda and Richard Lewman, of Eddyville, Iowa, and Joan and Gary West, of Ottumwa, Iowa; also the family of deceased niece, Judy Mitrisin (Joe Mitrisin).

      She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother, Francis Eugene, sister-in-law, Marion Leander, niece, Judy Mitrisin, and several members from the Leander, Burton, Carman, Carman, and Akers families.

      Funeral services were May 12 at the Eddyville Funeral Chapel with Pastor Danny Cary officiating. Burial is in IOOF Chillicothe Cemetery in Chillicothe, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the family.

      Through the Grace of God, Lucy had no pain in death and now is in Heaven in the Lord's loving light.
