Provided by Blanche McKay:29 March 1923....Mrs. R.E. Sparks and daughter, Misses Alice and
Virginia, gave an afternoon affair in honor of Miss Marna Sackett, who is
soon to wed C. Davenport Smith of Redlands. The affair was in the nature
of a miscellaneous bridal shower, followed by Bridge. Some sixty guests,
maids and matrons of Winters section, Dixon, Woodland and Sacramento,
enjoyed the gracious hospitality always displayed in the Spark's home.
Six fair maids in fairy, filmy gowns and carrying fancy parasols marched
to the strains of the wedding march played by Miss Dorothy Sackett,
leading the guest of honor, followed by the entire company, to a huge
umbrella, fancifully adorned with wistaria blossoms, under which was an
array of bridal tokens. Miss Sparks and Miss Sackett were classmates of
the Winters High School class of 1920 and this pleasant affair was the
occasion for the reunion of several members of 1920.

RESIDENT....One hundred relatives and friends witnessed the wedding
Saturday evening of Miss Marna Sackett and Charles Davenport Smith, young
business man of Redlands, where the newlyweds are to make their home.
The Sackett home was handsomely decorated in lilies and Dorothy Perkins
roses in honor of the important occasion in the lives of both the bride
and her father, who gave her away to the man of her choice. Miss Dorothy
Sackett played the wedding march from Lohengrin. Miss Mary Sackett of
Berkeley was bridesmaid and B. Sackett was groomsman. Barbara Goddard of
Turlock and Peggy McCollum of Salinas, relatives of the bride, were
flower girls. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. C.H. Culton, life
long friend of the family. Mrs. Smith is a girl of accomplishments, and
during her residence in Winters was one of its leaders among the
discriminating young folks. Previous to her marriage she was the motive
for many pretty social functions and showers. After honeymooning in the
Yosemite Valley Mr. and Mrs. Smith will go to Redlands to take up
permanent residence. Mr. and Mrs, Charles Smith, parents of the
bridegroom, reside there.
