      R. D. Harris Passes After a Short Illness

      Funeral Services Held in Presbyterian Church on Wednesday

      After an illness of a little more than two months, Riley D. Harris passed away at about 9 a. m. last Monday, February 3, 1941, at his home near Coldwater. Death was caused by a heart ailment.

      Funeral services were held on the Coldwater Presbyterian church on Wednesday afternoon. The pastor, Rev. George De Boer, was in charge, and was assisted by O. F. Boyd, pastor of the Coldwater Christian Church, and Thomas Palmer, now of Clearwater, Kans., and who was formerly the Christian church pastor here.

      Raymond and Leroy Cline sang ''There's a Land Beyond the River" and "In the Garden," accompanied by Mrs. A. A. White at the organ. A profusion of flowers gave tribute to Mr. Harris' memory.

      Burial was made in the Coldwater cemetery. The pall bearers were: C. E. Demuth, Fred Anderson, K. G . Ehrlich, W. P. Morton, Earl, Martin and H. H. Rich.

      Riley Davis Harris, son of Tom and Nora Harris, was born at Richfield, Mo., May 12, 1877, and departed from this life on February 8, 1941, at his home southwest of Coldwater, Kans., at the age of 63 years, 8 months and 21 days. He was preceeded (sic) in death by his parents.

      At the age of nine Mr. Harris went to live with his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Bennett of Hiattville, Kans., who also preceeded (sic) him in death.

      He was united in marriage to Mary Emily Biles, December 20, 1899, at Fort Scott, Kans., and they Made their home at Hepler until 1928, when they came to Comanche county.

      He leaves to mourn his passing: his wife; three children--Mrs. Ed Harper of Coldwater, Charles of Des Moines, Iowa, and Mrs. Kenneth Clint of Coldwater; eight grandchildren--Mrs. Gail Graff of Greensburg, Mrs. Dan Parcel of Protection, Edward Gus Harper of Coldwater, Beloa Jean and Patricia Sue Harris of Des Moines, Iowa, and Richard, Dorothy, and Kathleen Cline of Coldwater. There also remains one great-grandson, Galen Graff of Greensburg, as well as a host of friends and relatives.

      Hr. Harris united with the Christian church at Hepler, Kansas in November, 1914. For the past five years he has been the sexton of the Presbyterian church of Coldwater. He was of exemplary Christian character, a kind neighbor and ready to help one in need.

      ?Pop" Harris, as the young people affectionately called him, gave of his time and strength unselfishly to both his home and church. His passing leaves a place in the home and the community that can never be filled. His life was one dominated by service.
