IN NEWCOMB CHAPEL.
Wedding of the College's Distinguished Graduate Takes Place.
Newcomb Chapel was the scene of the marriage of one of the college graduates yesterday. The bride was Miss Eva S. Joor and the groom Rev. John Milton Williams. Miss Joor is the daughter of the late Dr. J. F. Joor of Tulane University and the Rev. J. M. Williams is the son of Capt. W. H. Williams of the staff of The Times-Democrat. The ceremony was performed by Rev. John C. Barr, pastor of the Lafayette Presbyterian Church. In the presence of a large assembly of friends of the young couple. who showered upon them the heartiest and sincerest wishes for their happiness.
The wedding party was quite a large one, the bride being attended by three bridesmaids and her maid of honor, and the groom by as many gentlemen. The dresses of the ladles were particularly beautiful and artistic. The bride herself was attired In white organdy, fashionably made, with an underdress of glistening satin. She wore a long illusion veil fastened to her hair with a bow of soft white ribbon. Her bouquet was of white sweet peas. Her maid of honor, Miss Ella May Joor, was dressed in white organdy worn over yellow satin. Of the bridesmaids, Miss Hattie Joor wore white organdy over pink satin; Miss Lillian Williams, the groom's sister, white organdy over pale green, and Miss Daisy Joor white organdy over pale blue. Each of the attendants of the bride carried a bouquet of Marguerites.
The bride was given away by her brother, W. E. Joor.
The groom was attended by his brother and best man, T. B. Williams. The other gentlemen of the wedding party were Ralph J. Holmes, Harry Williams and Adrian Schwartz.
When the notes of "Lohengrin's" bridal chorus sounded from the organ, played by Miss Leigh Bres, the wedding party entered In couples, with the exception of the groom and him best man, who awaited the bride In the chancel. She came in on the arm of her brother, William Joor, who gave her away.
The party formed a semi-circle about the officiating clergyman, standing in the midst of elaborate decorations of palms and oleanders. Just after the bells had rung the hour of 12 noon, Rev. Mr. Barr pronounced the couple man and wife. Mendelssohn's "Wedding March" completed the ceremony, and the party left the church in reversed order, the bride and groom leading the way. A few friends greeted them in the home of the bride, 6063 Laurel street, and after exchanging her wedding gown for a traveling dress Rev. and Mrs. Williams left for a short bridal trip. Their home will be in Covington the Presbyterian Church of which Mr. Williams is pastor.
The marriage of Miss Joor and Mr. Williams is a distinct refutation of the old proverb that the course of true love never runs smooth. They nave been engaged for three years, and their marriage has been deferred until this time because of the extreme youth of the bride. She is a dainty, petite little woman, a member of a family remarkable for its intellectual gifts. She is a graduate of Newcomb College, and at the time of her graduation won the Lazarus gold medal for the best English essay. Mr. Williams is a young and gifted Presbyterian minister, with a most promising future.
