I knew him until I was 28 years old when he died ... Gordon died in 1990 in his 95th year. He was a great man who could sit and tell family stories for hours on end. Everything I know first hand about early Ontario I learned from this man. He grew up at the turn of the 19th and 20th century in what was then a “Highland Scotch” part of Ontario where his parents would speak the odd bit of Gaelic if they didn’t want the kids to understand what was being discussed. It was called “Sackett’s Corners” in Grey County as having been founded by his grandfather, George Edward Sackett. The town literally doesn’t exist any more (in the 70’s some family memberstook Grandpa and his sister to try to find it) although I know of at least one old photograph of his grandfather’s “General Store” in Sackett’s Corners from around 1905 (maybe).
