Carl Jay Levie, resident of Redwood City. known to many as "Popeye", passed away peacefully at his home on August 5, 2010, with his family at his side. He was born on September 16, 1924 in Sacramento, California. Raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, Carl met his lifelong sweetheart, Marjorie at the early age of 17. While mending her families stairs Carl took one look at Marjorie and smashed his thumb. She, also falling in love at first sight, accidentally ran hot water over his thumb instead of cold. The two ran away to Wyoming to be married on Valentines Day in 1942. Three years later the couple moved to California hoping to start a new life in San Francisco; however, upon arrival Carl had already been drafted to serve in World War II. Carl honorably served his country for three years overseas and helped maintain supplies for the troops on the front lines in France and Germany. After returning from the war, to support his family Carl became a painter and traveled all across the state of California and Nevada on painting jobs, including the world famous Ahwahnee Hotel in Yosemite. Carl moved his family to Redwood City in 1951. In 1958 he embarked upon his highly successful career in Real Estate sales and property management as one of the founders of Terrace Realty. In 1970-1971Carl was President of the Redwood City-San Carlos-Belmont Board of Realtors and was awarded "Realtor of the Year" in 1970. Carl reached out to many individuals and families through his endless generosity. He was always willing to help anyone in need and taught others that giving is truly better than receiving. Carl always had a smile on his face and his upbeat personality would light up every room. He never spoke ill of anyone and all who knew him were touched by his genuine heart of gold. He was a loving husband, dedicated father, and always a child at heart with all his grandchildren. We will miss him dearly and always keep his memory in our hearts and carry on his legacy of kindness. Carl is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Marjorie Levie; his oldest brother Dean Levie; children: Cynthia Wynn and Jim Levie; grandchildren: Nick Wynn, Gina Campbell and Alison Levie; great grandchild: Chuck Wynn, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and long time friends and business associates. Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral services at Lifemark Center Skylawn Memorial Park. Viewing: Friday, August 13th, 10:00am. Service Friday, August 13th, 11:00am, followed by committal with military honors. Lunch will be served at Skylawn following the services and all are welcome.
