S. A. Sackett Passes Away
Assistant County Attorney Loses Hard Fight After Operation.
S. A. Sackett, 63, assistant county attorney, died at 3:15 p. m. yesterday at a local hospital, after a valiant two-weeks' fight to recuperate from effects of an operation. A blood transfusion given him Monday added new strength only briefly. It was intended to give him another blood transfusion today.
Mr. Sackett became ill Dec. 10 and was taken to the hospital for a kidney operation. His strength began failing four days ago.
Born In 1872.
Born in Cloverdale, Ind., in 1872, Mr. Sackett first entered public office as superintendent of public schools in Colorado City 30 years ago. He held this position for four years, going from Colorado to California, where his mother, Mrs. Emma Sackett, had moved.
He came to El Paso with his family in 1915. Appointed to the position of assistant county attorney in 1917, he served in that capacity until the time of his death.
Mr. Sackett's survivors include his widow, Mrs. Agnes Sackett, 4000 Hastings Street; his mother, Mrs. Emma Sackett, who came to El Paso from her home in California a few days ago; two sons, Forest V. and Albert K Sackett; two daughters, Mrs. T. L. Irby and Miss Hazel Sackett, and two grandchildren, all of El Paso.
Funeral services for Mr. Sackett will be held at 2 p. m. tomorrow, with the Rev. A. A. Hyde officiating.
