Ralph Updike
CHANUTE -- Ralph E. Updike, 86, Chanute, died Nov. 8, 1990, at St. Francis Hospital, Wichita.
Born May 30, 1904, in Cromwell, Iowa, he grew up in Humboldt and lived in Olathe before moving to Chanute 17 years years ago. While in Olathe, he worked for Rose Construction for 20 years.
He was a member of First Christian Church, Olathe, the Odd Fellows Lodge, Humboldt, and the Morning Gange, Olathe,
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn Updike, of the home; a daughter Sondra Updike-Alden, Chanute; two brothers, Samuel E. Updike, Sweeny, Texas and Edwin C. Updike, Gilbert, Ariz; and three grandchildren.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church, Chanute, with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery, Humboldt.
The family suggests memorials to Neosho Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.

O.E. "Slim" Updike, 77, 609 S. Cornell, Fritch, died Monday evening in Golden Plains Community Hospital.
A retired gauger at Phillips refinery, he was a native of Humboldt, Kansas, and an area resident for 41 years.
He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army, and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Fritch.
He is survived by his wife, Florence; three brothers, Ralph of Chanute, Kansas, Sam of Sweeny, and Edwin of Gilbert, Arizona.
Oliver Updike and Florence Kimbrough were married June 14, 1942, in Pampa.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Brown's Chapel of the Fountains, with Rev. Eddie Marcum, pastor, First United Methodist Church of Fritch, officiating.
Burial will be in the Highland Park Cemetery under the direction of Ed Brown & Sons Funeral Home.
