Gladys A. Shannon, 96, formerly of Sibley, MO peacefully passed away Wednesday, September 17, 2008 at the Medicalodges Care Center in Butler, MO. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 29, 2008 at the First Baptist Church of Buckner. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service from 1-2:00 p.m. Burial in Floral Hills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the church or to Heartland Hospice, 4 W. Ohio St., Butler, MO 64730. Gladys was born December 4, 1911 in Purcell, MO to Walter Earl and Cora Myrtle (Scott) Wyatt, the eldest of ten children. Mrs. Shannon was a faithful and active member of the church. She had a very strong faith in God that carried her through life. Gladys co-owned the Curnutt Grocery Store in Jasper, MO and single-handily ran it during the war while her husband was overseas. Later in life, she co-owned and operated Shannon Dry Goods in Englewood with her second husband. Gladys held several offices in the Eastern Star. She loved to play the piano in her spare time. Gladys is survived by her sister Donna Pieratt and husband Phil; brother-in-law Clarence "Bus" Weatherford and wife Shirley; sisters-in-law Evelyn Wyatt, Ann Wyatt, Jackie Wright; and by a host of nieces, nephews and many special friends. She was preceded in death by her first husband Floyd Curnutt in '58; second husband Arnold Shannon in '89; and by three sisters Helen Curnutt, Marie Terhune, Evelyn Weatherford; five brothers Russell, Earl, Harold, Leonard and Everette Wyatt.

Mrs. C. Myrtle Wyatt, 74, of 126 East Short, Independence, died yesterday at the home. She was born in Yale, Kas., and lived in Independence 41 years. She was a member of the West College Reorganized Latter Dav Saint church. Surviving are five sons, Russel E Wyatt, New Sharon, Ia.; Harold W. Wyatt, Belton; Earl Wyatt, 3008 Scott, Independence; Lenord (sic) G. Wyatt, Blairstown, Mo., and Everette L. Wyatt, Jasper, Mo.; five daughters, Mrs. Gladys A. Shannon and Mrs. Marie F. Terhune. both of Phoenix, Az.; Mrs. Helen A. Curnutt of the home; Mrs. Evelyn R Weatherford, Blairstown, and Mrs. Donna L. Pieratt, 6002 East 152nd, Grandview, 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 1 o'clock Saturday at the Carson chapel; burial in Floral Hills cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 o'clock Friday night at the chapel.

HAROLD W. WYATT
Harold W. Wyatt, 73, Amoret, Mo., formerly of this area, died Aug. 29, 1992, at a hospital in Butler, Mo. Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Schowengerdt Chapel, Butler. Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mount Washington Cemetery, Independence. Friends may call from 7 to 8 p.m. Monday at the chapel. The family suggests contributions to a relief fund for Hurricane Andrew. Mr. Wyatt was born in Purcell, Mo., and lived in Independence, Harrisonville, and Raymore and Peculiar in Cass County before he moved to Amoret in 1980. He was a farmer since the 1940s and a road grader for Homer Township in Bates County, Mo., since 1985. He worked for the Sheffield Steel Co. in 1940 and 1941. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Survivors include his wife, Virginia Wyatt of the home; four brothers, Russell Wyatt and Leonard Wyatt of Holden, Mo., Everett Wyatt, Carthage, Mo., and Earl Wyatt, Sibley in Jackson County; and five sisters, Glaldys Shannon, Sibley, Helen Curnutt, Independence, Marie Terhune, Phoenix, Evelyn Weatherford, Holden, and Donna Pieratt, Amoret.
