The eulogy provided by James Taylor April 11, 2015
Pinkie and Olin came to Clarksville in 1982 to start their very happy retirement. They made many friends through their Christian Fellowship , Pinkie's Bridge, and Dad's golf buddies. A few years after coming to Clarksville, Pinkie and Dad started hosting an annual Christmas party with 70 to 100 of their close friends. They continued their Christmas parties for almost 20 years. Dad and Pinkie enjoyed being involved in the Community.
My dad had a very generous heart and many of you here may have been touched by him in that way. He gave often in a very personal way, but he also gave in ways intended to benefit many. He wanted everyone to have a chance to be touched by the Lord.
Olin was a Navy veteran of WWII, part of the Greatest Generation. He was a Lt. Commander of a supply ship in the south Pacific. They were attacked by Japanese planes dropping bombs and some sailors were killed. One bomb fell just a few feet from the ship's bridge and landed on a deck below. It was not lost on Olin how just the difference of that short distance spared his life.
After the war Dad continued in leadership positions as a civilian in the Department of the Army, and retired as a Senior Executive of the Army Material Command.
So by training, my dad had very strong views and opinions. With religion he was very passionate about his strong views and opinions, and some of you may have been acquainted with that side of Dad. Lest he stepped on any toes, let me assure you that even when he disagreed with you he still loved you all.
Beginning with Pinkie's illness over 7 yrs ago, Katie Wasden, her daughter Candice, and her grandson Kaleb have taken care of Pinkie and Dad with great love and kindness. Dad has regarded them as a big part of his family for these many years.
My dad felt that he had been blessed in this life, and often expressed the feelings that Goodness and Mercy had followed him all the days of his life. Indeed, my dad will dwell in the House of the Lord Forever.
