Notes |
- Placing Zelotus Sackett as a son of Joseph Sackett is based upon him being listed as a near neighbor of Joseph in the 1820, 1830, and 1840 censuses in Ontario County, NY and upon his date of birth fitting with the age of the oldest son listed in the household of Joseph Sackett in the 1790 census of Pittsfield, Berkshire Co., MA and the 1810 census of Pompey, Onondaga Co., NY.
------
Another consideration is the fact that Zelotus petitioned to serve as executor of Joseph's estate in 1844. The wording of the petition seems to suggest that Zelotus was a son of Joseph:
"To the Surrogate of the County of Ontario
The petition of Zelotus Sackett of the town of
Naples in said county sheweth
That Joseph Sackett late of the town of Naples
in the county of Ontario deceased departed this
life at the said Town on or about the Seventeenth
day of January A.D. 1842 without leaving any last
will & Testament within the knowledge informa-
tion or belief of the said petitioner and without
leaving any widow hier surviving & leaving
him surviving the said petitioner & others his
children .."

1860 census; Cohocton, Steuben Co., NY, page 654, Aug 1860
household #127, family #119
Jas.R. Porter, age 27, born N.York
Caroline M. Porter, , age 22, born N.York
Eva W. Porter, age 2, born N.York
Viola E. Porter, age 7/12, born N.York
Zellatus Sackett, age 84, born Mass., Carpenter
[Although the age recorded for Zellatus Sackett is 84; this appears to be Zelotus who would have been 72 in 1860 and we know he was a carpenter and was born in MA. It appears that Carolin M. Porter, age 22, is the same individual as Caroline M. Wadkins, age 12, in the 1850 census.]
