John W. Sackett, age 68, of Wicklow Dr., died Thursday, May 17. A decorated World War II Army Veteran and armed forces journalist, he was founder and owner of Toledo Floor Covering and K&M Floor Covering companies. He was an avid and skillful golfer, and devoted family man.
John was born on June 20, 1921, in Newport, MI.
He was preceded in death by his parents Marie and John Sackett, and brothers Milford, Richard and Paul Sackett.
John was the beloved husband of Elizabeth; and a devoted father of Mry Hammond, Sharon Stebbins, Pamela Thacker, and Kathy Rollison; and loving grandfather of Chris, Tony and Nick Hammond and John, Sam and Katie Thacker. He is also survived by is dear sister, Mrs. Susan Jackman.
John was a former member of the West Toledo Knights of Columbus and Highland Meadows Country Club.
Friends may call at the Ansberg-West Funeral Home, 3000 Sylvania Ave., afer 3 PM Sunday, May 20, where Scripture Services will follow at 8:30 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 AM Monday, May 21, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Ilger Ave. Officiation will be Rev. James F. Cryan. Interment Otawa Hills Memorial Park.
His family requests contributions to Lillies of the Field Ministry to the Homelsee, c/o St. Francis deSales Church, 501 Cherry St., Toledo, Oh 43604.

Sons of Mr. and Mrs. John W. Sackett of Adrian, Sgt. John Sackett Jr. is now recovering from malaria in an Australian hospital and Pfc. Richard Sackett is attending communications school at Camp Haan, Calif. Sgt. Sackett, 22 years old. entered the service Livingston in Louisiana and at Fort Devens, Mass., before leaving . . . for overseas duty in April, 1942. He served with the 32nd division in New Guinea. Both Sgt. Sackett and his brother are graduates of St. Mary's high school. Twenty-seven-year-old Pfc. Richard Sackett trained in the coast artillery at Fort Worden and Fort Flagler, Wash., after entering the service January 25. 1941. Prior to his induction he was employed by the Gerity-Adrian Manufacturing Corporation.

EDGEWATER, Fla. -- Richard Sackett, 67, died Nov. 2, 1983, in Edgewater, Fla.
Mr. Sackett was born in Newport, Mich. July 25, 1916 and graduated from St. Mary's School in Adrian. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Adrian Post 1584 of the VFW. He worked as a salesman for Sackett Brothers Floor Covering and moved to Edgewater, Fla. in 1974.
Survivors include three brothers, Milford of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., John of Toledo and Paul of Adrian; and one sister, Mrs. Suzanne Jackman of Little Rock, Ark.
Services and burial were held Friday in Edgewater.

New Smyrna Beach, Fla. - Milford J. Sackett, 68, of 516 Ball St., New Smyrna Beach, died March 8, 1984 at his home.
He was born in Newport, Mich, March 16, 1915 and graduated from Adrian High School. He married Leona Horger in 1939 and she survives.
Survivors include seven sons, James of Nashville, Tenn., Thomas of Altamonte Springs, Fla., John of Port Orange, Fa., Michael of Fort Myers, Fla., Edward of Adrian, Raymond of Kalamazoo, and Patrick of Edgewater, Fla; three daughters, Mary Hyatt of Whithall, Ann McLain of Ormond Beach, and Sally LaClaire of Edgewater; 29 grandchildren; two brothers, John of Toledo and Paul "Tubby" of Adrian; and one sister, Susan Jackman of Little Rock, Ark.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Richard, and one grandson.
Services were held March 10 at Sacred Heart Church, New Smyrna Beach.
