Bob was born to Louise M. and Walter O. Sackett in Dodge County, MN. He grew up on his grandfather's farm after his father died when he was five. Bob served in the Coast Guard in WWII, and returned to the farm after the War. Because of his wife's health, they moved to Wyoming in 1952. In 1969 he accepted a similar position, Exec. Director of Arizona Crop Improvement, and Associate Agronomist at the University of Arizona.
Bob retired in 1987 to enjoy woodworking, travel, children, grandchildren, and friends. He served as International President of Association of Official Seed Certifying Agencies as well as other professional organizations. He was an active member of Christ Church, United Methodist for 39 years.
