Notes |
- There are sources which give the wives of Orlin Sackett as Sarah Stevens and Mandy Dans.
For his first wife the 1850 census gives her name as Lucinda and her headstone in Fairview Cemetery, Naples, Ontario Co. NY has her name as "Lucinda Sackett wife of Orlin." The death certificate of their son George Steven Sackett gives the maiden name of his mother as Johnson. This indicates that her name was Lucinda Johnson.
In the 1860 census Orlin is listed with two children and no wife. This would indicate that he had not remarried at that time. In the 1870 and 1880 censuses he is listed with a wife, Ann E. born in Maine. The death certificate of their son Elton gives the maiden name of his mother as Elizabeth Hanscom. And the family Bible of the Hanscom family gives her name as Ann Elizabeth Hanscom and her death as Jan. 1890.
From this it would appear that if Orlin had a wife named Mandy Dans they would have been married after the death of Ann Elizabeth in Jan 1890. Mandy Dans would have been his third wife.

Subject: [SACKETT] Ella Sackett's family information
. . .
My great grandmother is Ella Sackett, b. 6/8/1868
d. 10/7/1940. She was one of Orlin Sackett's 6 children. I have been researching my Sackett family since 2000 when I was in Minnesota on a visit.
You already have that Ella Sackett was born 6/8/1878 in Goodhue Co. MN. In 1890 she married Oscar Orrin Conklin. O O Conklin was born 3/26/1861 in Garden City MN. They had two children:
- Maude Elizabeth Conklin (my grandmother) b. 12/17/1892 and died 3/25/1942 in Minneapolis.
- Harry Conklin I don't know much about this family. He married Ella Rediehs & they had 2 children born around 1920: Elwyn and Leetha
O O Conklin died 3/26/1917 in Truman MN of Bright's Disease.
Ella Sackett Conklin married Clarence H. Whissemore on 10/11/1922. She died as Ella Whissemore on 10/7/1940 in Minneapolis MN.
Maude Conklin had been living in Montana for a few years and returned to the Truman MN area and married Frank Hammond Pettit 11/26/1912. Frank Pettit was born 5/18/1890 in Sabetha KS and died 11/4/1954 in Minneapolis. The marriage ended in divorce in the late 1930's.
They had one child, Melva Ruth Pettit, born 5/18/1918 in Fairmont MN. This of course is my mother, but I'm not sure you want information on her marriage, death etc.
I have some confusion based on Minnesota census information from 1875. Orlin Sackett listed his father and mother as being born in Vermont, which does not match the work you have done. Your site lists Orlin's father, Delotus, as having been born in Pittsfield, MA. Vermont became a state in 1791, and Orlin's father was born in 1788. My research shows there being considerable contention as to just what was to be included in VT. So I understand there being some confusion on Orin's part 80 years later.
The 1865 Roscoe MN census lists a George and Sarah Sackett, Orlin in the household with his wife Ann, Edward and Ermina, which does match your data.
The 1865 Cherry Grove MN census lists Layman Sackett, Lucinda (his wife) and Morris, Willis and Mary. I visited the Nashville MN cemetery where Ann and Orlin Sackett are buried. Near by is a grave stone for Mary Sackett, 10/14/1862 to 2/22/1938. My guess if she was unmarried, and assuming she is the same person in the earlier two censuses, no one is looking for her. I had noticed she is not in the data base.
