Leander Allen.
Born April 25, 1841, in Guernsey county, Ohio. Died at the residence of his sister. Mrs. M. Priest, in west Greenleaf, Saturday, Oct 25, aged 76 years 6 months and 2 days. Mr. Allen was an old Civil war veteran. He enlisted at Moundsville, West Virginia, August 12, 18G2, in Co. B, 12th West Virginia. He was discharged in May, 18G5, at Cumberland, Maryland, serving until the close of the war. He came to Riley county, Kansas in the fall of 1870 where he resided until the last two years, since which time he has made his home with his sister in Greenleaf. He leaves three sisters and one brother. Mrs. M. J. Priest of Greenleaf, Mrs. E. A. Stillwell of Manhattan, Mrs. Emily Edwards of Schoolcraft, Michigan, and R. H. Alien of Riley county, Kansas. He was a good, kind old man and was loved and respected by all who knew him. He never refused to lend a hclping hand to the needy and no one was ever turned from his door hungry. He was a good citizen and a faithful soldier. May he hear welcome words: "Well done, thou good and faithful servant enter into the joys of thy Lord."
