      It appears that William's father, John Sacket, had made a promise of doubling a gift made by Hannah Graves' mother, Mary (Church) Graves, to the newly wed couple. It also appears that John Sacket failed to fulfill his promise:

      The testimony of Mary Graves of Hatfield in ye County of
      Hampshire in New England aged 59 years or there
      abouts is that my brother John Sacket of Westfield
      w'n he came for my consent that my Daughter Hannah
      might be his son W'm Sackets wife, we discussed
      of what temporall enjoyments they should have it
      my Daughter Hannah Graves & his Son W'm Sacket
      of ye town & County above expressed should be
      married to my Daughter, My Brother John Sacket
      of ye town and County above expressed did ask me
      what I would give my Daughter Hannah above
      expressed. I then told him I would give my
      Daughter Hannah thritie pounds of more & my
      Brother Sacket above expressed sayd I might give
      my Daughter Hannah above expressed w't I would
      & w't I gave he would double it & further say not.

      Country above expressed & then I heard my mother

      daughter Hannah if she should be his sons

      Here ffolloweth a Settlement of the Estate of
      William Sackett of Westfield deceased december 28, 1701

      As to a Settlement of the Estate of William Sacket of
      Westfield deceased the totall Sum of his Inventoried
      ffree Estate is 203£, 14, 01. Out of which for
      Expenses in the ffamily the first year and some
      Losses of Cattell & other things must be Sub ducted
      13£, 14, 01 so then the Estate to be divided
      is 190£ which is in Lands & houseing 95£ &
      in Moveable goods the like sum of 95£ off which
      Hannah the Relict is to have 31- 13- 4 Out of
      the houseing & Lands for the term of her life,
      & 31- 13- 4 In moveable goods as her Own
      absolute Estate & at her own dispose for Ever,
      The remainder of the Estate to be divided
      amongst the children is 126£ " 13 " 4 which is
      63 " 6 " 8 in Houseing & Lands & 63£ " 6 " 8 in
      Moveable goods off which the Eldest Son
      named Joseph is to have a double portion
      viz. 50£ " 13 " 4 & to the 2nd Son named
      Jonathan 25£ " 6 " 8 To Hannah Sackett
      daughter to the deceased 25£ " 6 " 8 and to
      Rebecca Sackett second daughter to the
      deceased 25 " 6 " 8 The Sons to have all
      the houseing & Lands proportioned to them
      as above s'd & what s'd Housening and Lands
      comes to more then their afores'd portions
      comes to to be repayed by them unto ye
      daughters in good pay Equivolent to the Lands
      together with the Moveable goods to make
      up & fully accomplish the daughters portions
      as afores'd in any of the children dye before
      of age to Receive their s'd portions then
      their portions to be distributed unto the
      Survivers according to the aforesd rule of
      proportion & as alsoe the widdows 3rd of

      Rivertion to be divided by the Like rule of

      William Sackett, 1662-1700, of Westfield, Mass. Was married December 26, 1687, to Sarah Crain, who a short time thereafter died without issue. In 1689 he was married to Hannah Graves, daughter of Isaac Graves and Hannah Church. In the winter of 1699-1700 he was drowned in the Connecticut River near Deerfield on his return from a wedding he had been attending with a party of relatives and friends. -
