    • Baptist clergyman, was born at Tobias, Cataraugus County, NY., was educated for the ministry at Hamilton Theological Institute, married to Amanda Bardeen, and was for a considerable period located at Kingsville, Ohio. [Weygant, p. 320]
      ------
      NOTE: There are some serious problems with Weygan'ts placing Rev. John B. Sackett as a son of Dr. John and Loraine Lawrence Sackett.
      1) The date of John B.'s birth is given as 1812 and that year is confirmed by census data. However, according to the pension file of Loraine, she and Dr. John were married in Essex, VT in 1816 and neither had been previously married.
      2) Weygant gives the place of John B.'s birth as Tobias, Cattaraugus Co., NY while the biography for his son, Buel Rathburn/Ruthven, says that John B was born January 8, 1812 near Syracuse, Onondaga Co., NY. The bio of Buel R. states that Buel R. was born at Fabius, Onondaga Co., NY, which is near Syracuse.
      3) Loraine stated in her pension file that following their marriage in Essex, VT that they lived "One year in Essex, 1 year in Burlington, Vt, 1 year New Lebanon N.Y. and all the rest of his life in Nassau, N.Y." where he died in 1827. This suggests that Dr. John may have never lived in Cattaraugus, or Onondaga counties. Some have suggested that due to the fact that Dr. John Sackett served in western New York during the War of 1812, he could married there and was the father of John Buel Sackett. The unanswered question is, if this is true, then what happened to Dr. John's 1st wife? And, due to the fact that John was married in Vermont in 1816, the question would be, who raised John B. Sackett in western New York? - [Thurmon King]

      From "History of Columbus and Franklin County, Ohio," by William Alexander Taylor [S.J. Clarke Publishing Co., Chicago, 1909], Vol. 2.; page 66
      John Buel Sackett, was a native of western New York and in 1845 removed to Ashtabula county. For many years he devoted his life to the active work of the ministry of the Baptist church and for twelve years prior to his demise was in charge of the state missions. His life was one of continuous activity for the benefit of his fellowmen, and he always looked for the best in others and gave the best he had. His life was an inspiration, his memory a benefaction. He married Amanda Dibbel, a native of western New York, and she too has passed away.

      HISTORY OHIO, KNOX COUNTY.- 410
      The First Baptist church was organized under the name of the First Baptist church of Mt. Vernon, December 15, 1835. Of the thirteen members who signed the original compact, only five are now living. Henry Cosner was the first pastor. The first service was held in the Methodist Episcopal church on Mulberry street, on the site of the present union school building; then in a select school building on Vine street, the present home of Joseph Jacobs. The church after this migrated from place to place for a period of one or two years, when a location was effected in a ward school-house, now the home of the worthy sexton of the church, Mr. John Hancock.
      p. 411
      The church worshipped in that little twelve by sixteen room until the erection of the church building now used by the church, on Vine street, adjoining the home of the sexton. ...

      The church prospered, and in sixteen years three hundred and sixty-six members had been added by letter and baptism, and the membership had increased from thirteen to two hundred and thirty-nine. Since its organization fifteen ministers have been called to the pastoral charge, viz:
      1850, J. B. Sackett, four years;
      1860, no pastor four years-occasionally supplied by J. B. Sackett
