    • Letter dated March 13, 1952, Sunfield, Michigan:

      Dear Cousin Andrew,
Your letter glandly rec. I was glad to hear from you as I have herd so little from Juncle Joel's family. Your uncle Frank was here just a few minits about six years ago, but have not seen or herd any thing since only that Andy was dead was he your Father. Nobe Sackett who lives the first farm south of me was out to one of your reunions once but that was as much as 10 years for it was before his Father Henery died and he has been dead a little over nine years. Nobe his Father and Mother and myself went to Andies to a reunion that was about 20 years ago for I think it was the summer he Nobe helped me and the year after he passed the twelfth grade and is is 40 now. I have herd of Aaron Sackett. I think he must have been the Father of my grandfather Charles Sackett who was Joel B. Sackett Father and they made the trip from Vermont to Western N.Y. in the winter. Great Grand Father Joel Bascom his wife and twodaughters coming with a nice young team on a cutter the Young folksCharles and baby and 2 yeawr old wanted to go along but no room in the cutter and they had no horse but the day before they started Charles found an old mair that some one had turned out back to a strawstack to live or die as she could and Charles got her and found a cutter and harnes hitched her on and started after them. I got stoped and it has been about a week now. I am here with a pensil again, but the old man could not quite keep up so the old fokes hung out a flag and the yungfolks follow on until they found it. They drove several days and in the morning Grandfather Joel said to Charles my colts are gaunting (?) up and I must give them a day rest. Charles said the old Mair has gained looks best this morning and kept up not more than 4 or 5 miles and caught it inless than an hour so I guess we will keep her going and got through to their destination a day or two first which pleased them very much.Somewhere along the trip the young folks tiped over in the snow while they were straightning up and getting things back to place, Joel walked a little where he could see down a steep bank when he came back said if we had gone down there we would have wanted Bread and Butter. Uncle Joel told me this and other interesting things when he was here about 48 or 49 years ago. It was after my Father William died and that was 50 years this 9 of March and Uncle was 6 years older and he said he would be 90.
You spoke of Beryerman and Aaron Sackett. I think you are right Aaron my great grandfather had two or more boys and 2 or more girls. Charles and William the later went to Indiana. Charles the one I spoke on a back page came to Western N.Y. Joel, Alonzo and William my Father born May 16, 1821 died March 6, 1902 Malisie. Gilbert. Edmon. Charlotte Noble born Oct, 1833, died about Sept. 15, 1912. Dock and Sarah. My Father William came here not later than 1850 to see this place and moved here in 51 or 52 May. Noble came here in 1855 in Oct. from Indiana where he hadworked all summer with his Uncle William building barms and he builtbarns here after that he had one son. Henry B., who died about 9 years ago left one daghter Susie she married Ernest Wouse near Mulliken and one son Noble who lives on the Fathers place south of one and works in Lansing 20 mi. E. My Father and Mother Mercy came here in 1851 or 2 on this place not a stick cut. Brot one baby girl with them and two more came and all died in Oct. 1855, then a boy was born June 7 1857 name Cassius known here in Eaton Co. Mich. as Dr. C. S. Sackett of Charlotte. He died about 7 yrs ago and his widdow went with their daughter, Mrs. Dr. H. H. Berkett of oak Park, Ill. She died Jan . 1 at night was buryed Jan 4 in Charlotte we all went to her funeral and Feb 4 my only sun Heber died in Freemont Mich he was 50. Nora my Brothers widow would have been 95 the 7 of May. My sister Mary 90 died the 9th of March. She was 90 the last day of January. Monday March 24 it stormed Sat. A.M., and I looked most of the forenoon for some mo facts about our ancestors but could not either a have given them to someone or they are layed aways so safely I could not find them. My wife Bertha and I live here alone on the place my Father and Mother started a hundred years ago but we think it hard and lonesome especially now my car is layed up and my children a hundred miles away. My oldest girl has 2 boys the older one a Dr in Boston the younger one a Ford dealer in Brian Ohio and her husband a vise president over the advertising department of the Ford Motor Co. The younger girl oldes boy they have taken to Germany and the oldest girl is married and lives in New York city and her, my daughter, husband work in the assemby room at Fords and 5 younger children in school the boys family 100 miles the other way from the girls. The boy granson driver 18 mi. and back every day the girl works in Hospital in Grand Rapids. The middle boy home and goes to school. The little boy a baby in his mother's arms only three weeks old when his Father died soyou see they are busy all they can do and to mind their business and hang on. Bertha has been able to cook the meet and potatoes and I split the wood.
Glad to hear from you and would be glad to again. There is nothing more I can say about our ancestors except two brothers came to the puratons here at Plimoth Rock in 1630 one John that we go back to only lived acouple of years but left a boy.
