Ex-Philippine Justice Is Dead
George A. Malcolm, 79, Was U-M Graduate
HOLLYWOOD, May 18 (AP) -- George A. Malcolm, former justice of the supreme court of the Philippine islands, is dead at 79.
Justice Malcolm founded the college of law at the University of the Philippines. He also was attorney general of Puerto Rico from 1939 to 1942.
He died Tuesday after becoming ill last month on his return from the Philippines and the far east, His doctor attributed death to infirmities of old age.
Justice Malcolm went to the Philippines immediately after graduation from the University of Michigan school of law in 1906. President Wilson appointed him to the supreme court there in 1917.
He wrote several books, his latest an autobiography titled "American Colonial Careerist."
Justice Malcolm recently received the Philippine Legion of Honor from President Carlos Garcia, a former student of Malcolm's.
Surviving are his widow, Lucille; a daughter. Dr. Mary Malcolm Leydorf of San Marino, Cal., and two grandsons.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at Forest Lawn Memorial park.

Funeral Rites Set for Former Justice Malcolm
Funeral services for George A. Malcolm, 79, former justice of the Supreme Court of the Philippine Islands, will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday in the Wee Kirk o' the Heather, Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
Justice Malcolm, who died Tuesday in Monte Sano Hospital lived at 4947 Marathon St., Hollywood. Entombment will be in the family memorial in Forest Lawn Mausoleum, Glendale.
Michigan Graduate
A graduate of the University of Michigan School of Law in 1906, Justice Malcolm immediately went to the Philippines where he began a career of colonial service. He was appointed to the Supreme Court there 11 years later by President Wilson.
Justice Malcolm remained on the court for more than 18 years, until after the inauguration of the Commonwealth of the Philippines in 1936, when he was appointed to the staff of the High Com missioner, in 1939, he was appointed Attorney General of Puerto Rico. He held this position, until November, 1942.
Justice Malcolm was an active Rotarian and the first district governor of Rotary International in the Philippines.
Justice Malcolm was the recipient of many honorary degrees and had written several books. The latest was his autobiography "American Colonial Careerist." He was considered a world authority on constitutional law.
Justice Malcolm leaves his widow, Lucille; a daughter, Dr. Mary Malcolm Leydorf, and two grandsons.

MALCOLM, Lucille widow of the late Justice George A. Malcolm, died in Los Angeles on January 13, 1992. Educated as a teacher in the State of Washington, she taught grades 1 through 12 in the Seattle school System for 9 years.
Mrs. Malcolm and her husband met on a world cruise in 1932, and they were married shortly thereafter in Manila. Mrs. Malcolm accompanied her husband, when he left the Philippines in 1940 and thereafter became Attorney General of Puerto Rico. Following his retirement in 1944, the couple lived in Hollywood, California.
The late Justice Malcolm was the founder of the College of Law of the University of the Philippines and served as a member of the Supreme Court of the Philippines for 17 years.
Mrs. Malcolm is survived by her daughter, Mary M. Leydorf M.D.: son-in-law, Fred L. Leydorf: and five grandchildren: Robert, William, Thomas and Deborah Leydorf and Katherine Dustin and her husband, Frank.
Private cryptside services were held on January 16, 1992 at Forest Lawn Glendale, Forest Lawn mortuary.
