      LAPORTE -- Ralph H. Holtz, 81, of 101 Linden Drive, died at 11:55 p.m. Friday in his home. Mr. Holtz was a retired assembly line foreman of Allis Chalmers Corp., where he had worked for 43 years. He was born July 19, 1912, in LaPorte and was a lifetime area resident. On March 1, 1936, in LaPorte, he married Lucille Raymond. She died Sept. 5, 1992. He is survived by 10 daughters, Marleen Alsfasser, Debbie DeMartinis and Sue Caddo, all of LaPorte, Judy Gearhart of Knox, Cherie Hoover of Hanna, Sally Jonas of South Bend, Karin Carney and Mary Rishling, both of Nappanee, Cathy Rogers of Osceola, and Cindy Eichelberg of Westville; two sons, Ralph "Buz" of Valparaiso and Jeff of North Liberty; 29 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Proud of Olancha, Calif., and a brother, Warren of Long Beach, Calif. Mr. Holtz ran for sheriff in 1955 and was the LaPorte Father of the Year in 1955. He was a member of the Allis Chalmers Management Club.

      Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Haverstock Funeral Home. Burial will be in Patton Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday and until services Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Visiting Nurses Association Hospice or any charity.
