A.H. ARCHER, OF ANN LAKE, PASSED AWAY
A.H. Archer of Ann Lake township passed away at the Braham hospital last Thursday afternoon. He had been confined there six weeks but had been in poor health for a number of years. A resident of this county since 1907, Mr. Archer had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Chas. J. Nelson, since 1926.
Adelbert Harlow Archer was born near Gouverneur, N.Y., January 14, 1871, and moved with his parents to Hazel, S.D., when about seven years old. He married Helen B. Kellogg at Hazel, S.D., June 7, 1893, and went to live on his homestead near there. Five children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Archer, all of whom survive. They are Edgar of Minneapolis, Ruth (Mrs. C.R. Wagner), Willard, and Marion (Mrs. Chas. J. Nelson) of the home community, and Lester of Los Angeles, Calif.
The family moved from Hazel, S.D., to Hannibal, N.Y., in 1902, where Mr. Archer engaged in the butcher business until 1905, then returned to Hazel, S.D., because of his threshing interests. Mrs. Archer died November 25, 1905. In the fall of 1907 Mr. Archer gathered his children, who had been living with relatives since the death of their mother, and they moved to Minnesota, buying a farm northwest of Mora in Ann Lake township and began the task of making a home in the wilderness. Mr. Archer was injured while operating his threshing rig at Watertown, S.D., in the fall of 1913, and has since been confined to a wheel chair, but has remained cheerf ul and in good spirits in spite of his handicap. In the spring of 1926 Mr. Archer and his family gave up farming and spent the summer in Couer D'A lene, Idaho. Since the fall of that year he has made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Nelson.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. W.G. Boyle at the Dresser chapel last Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Leon Ottowa, accompanied Mrs. Peter Batz when she sang. Pallbearers were Henry Wick, E.J. Ziebarth, Taylor Mick, Vertus Tamsen, Joe Tyler and Dana Cutler. The remains were interred in the Oakwood cemetery.
Those attending the funeral from away were J.C. Archer and Mr. and Mrs. F.A. Archer of Minneapolis; M.L. Archer and daughter, Mrs. Lecile Kundert of Pine Island, Minn; Mr. and Mrs. E.J. Ziebarth of Minneapolis, Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Ziebarth of Hopkins and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Wick of Stewart.
